The complaint alleges that “Child#5, who is enrolled in the two-year-old class, was diagnosed with an unknown virus this week and is very sick. During pick-up and drop-off, the RP observed four to five children in the classroom with runny noses and questioned whether the facility is conducting health checks and or notifying parents when children are ill.” LPA Perry attempted to reach the reporting party and was unsuccessful.

LPA conducted interviews with staff regarding the allegation. Staff interviewed consistently stated that there had not been any children exhibiting symptoms of illness or reported as sick and sent home within the last two weeks. Staff further stated that daily health checks are conducted upon each child’s arrival during drop-off at the facility. Children are assessed for signs of illness or symptoms of illness and if a child is or is observed to be ill or showing symptoms the child is sent back home with their parents in accordance with the facilities handbook. S#3 stated that child#5 was out due to illness per the parent and Doctors note that was provided to the facility but that the child was not sent home from school or observed to be ill at the facility. Additionally if there is an illness and or outbreak at the facility, they will post a bulletin notice for all parents as well as inform them verbally or on their school app.

According to the Director, each parent receives the handbook upon enrollment and signs an acknowledgment confirming receipt and understanding of the facilities policies and procedures. The Director explained that if the facility becomes aware of an outbreak or communicable disease/ illness, parents are notified through multiple methods, including posted bulletin boards at the facility, verbal communications to the parents, and the facilities school app. No other children are out ill or due to an illness at this time.

LPA did not observe any children exhibiting visible signs of illness. LPA did observe morning drop off procedures staff conducted health checks for each child upon arrival to assess for any observable signs of illness prior to the children staying in care.
