According to staff interviews, staff reported that the center follows consistent nap-time routines in which children clean up after lunch, wash hands, receive diaper checks or use the bathroom, remove shoes, and lie on individual cots. Staff described offering comfort through gentle soothing practices such as patting backs, rubbing heads, or tucking blankets as needed. Children may choose their sleep positions, and quiet activities may be provided for children who do not fall asleep. Staff stated that they receive ongoing training related to supervision, personal rights, communication, health and safety, and classroom procedures. Staff denied forcing children to sleep, forcing specific sleep positions, or withholding comfort items (toys) as punishment. Practices were described as supportive and based on individual needs and preferences.
According to parents’ interviews, parents reported positive communication with the program and stated their children look comfortable with nap routines. Parents described nap-time as calm and relaxing, with lowered lights, soft music, and availability of personal blankets or comfort items brought from home. Parents stated their children have never reported being forced to sleep, held in specific positions, or prevented from using comfort items. Children who do not sleep may rest quietly or may look at a book, depending on classroom routines.
Based on interviews conducted, evidence gathered and records reviewed, at this time, it is concluded that although the allegations listed on previous page (page 1), may have happened or are valid, there is not a preponderance of evidence to prove the alleged violations did or did not occur. Therefore, the allegations are UNSUBSTANTIATED.
No deficiencies were cited during today’s investigation. Appeal rights were provided.
Exit interview was conducted, and the report was reviewed with Director, Andrea Marc.
