On 02/26/2025 Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Veronica Diaz conducted an unannounced case management- other inspection. LPA met with Licensee's daughter, Kaileigh Smith. At the time of inspection their were 6 children and 2 adults including licensee daughter. The Santa Barbara Regional Office received information that the Licensee, Kristin Watson had passed away.

LPA conducted interview with Kaileigh Smith and it was determined that the facility has been providing child care since Licensee’s passing on 02/19/2025. LPA informed Kaileigh Smith that child care can no longer be conducted unless it is under exempt care. LPA explained exempt care to Kaileigh. Kaileigh Smith is interested in continuing the license and informed LPA they would like to apply for a family child care home license. LPA informed Kaileigh Smith about the process go through the licensing of a FCCH. LPA emailed Kaileigh Smith with the department website at: https://cdss.ca.gov/inforesources/child-care-licensing/how-to-become-licensed LPA also attached required forms and application to apply for license. Kaileigh Smith understood the process and what exempt care is and the process in applying for a FCCH license.

LPA provided Kaileigh Smith License Application and Instructions for FCCH, and a handout explaining exempt child care.

No deficiencies were issued during today’s inspection.

Exit interview conducted and report was reviewed with Licensee’s daughter Kaileigh Smith.
